The Home Stretch won a Merit Award at the Williamsburg Contemporary Art Center on May 30, 2023.  The Home Stretch captures the beauty of Bali Balifly, ridden by jockey Yan Aviles, as they lead the pack and won the 1^st race on August 23, 2022, at the Colonial Downs Racetrack located in Providence Forge, Va. The Judge, Ms. Jan Ledbetter, member of the American, National and Virginia Watercolor Societies, said: “In the transparent watercolor titled The Home Stretch, the diagonal design of the racetrack fencing frames the riders. The rhythmic negative spaces between the horses’ legs and fencing, the focal point of the rider wearing the yellow jersey, and the interplay of three areas of surrounding red color connects the riders artfully guiding the eye through the painting.”
